Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosely
Regardless of why Andre Berto dropped out, or the fact that the Pacquaio vs. Mayweather fight won’t be happening now or even for quite a while, if ever, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Sugar Shane Mosley is a huge fight. While it won’t be the megafight that boxing fans (and hell, just about everybody) was looking forward to, it is a fight that has been discussed for years now, coming to a head when Mosley jumped into the ring after Mayweather’s win over Juan Manuel Marquez and challenging him to a fight this year.
The stars were not aligned for Floyd Mayweather to fight the Phillipines favorite son, Manny Pacquiao, but things do seem to be in line for Mayweather to battle Shane Mosley on either May 1st or May 8th. Mayweather’s advisor, Leonard Ellerbe feels good about it;
“We are still negotiating the Mosley fight. We are having some every good discussions which is definitely a breath of fresh air. We’re looking at a couple of dates in early May. Obviously we want to allow ourselves enough time to properly promote this mega, mega fight. This is a fight that fans have been talking about for ten years. Floyd has wanted this fight for over ten years,” Ellerbe told BoxingScene.com.
Of course, Dana White doesn’t feel good about it. When the initial date of May 1st was tossed around, White was quick to change UFC 113 to May 8th. Of course, with the Mayweather camp not concrete on May 1st yet, this means UFC could still go head-to-head with one of boxing’s biggest fights of the year. Ouch.
