What does it take to beat Floyd Mayweather?

eprometheus asked:

Just to get this out of the way, Castillo beat Mayweather in their first fight. Okay, de la Hoya could have beaten Mayweather, but he did not make him angry enough to want to fight like Hatton is doing right now. Hatton’s comments are upsetting Mayweather and will perhaps be enough to change his fighting style – similar to what Duran did with Leonard before their first fight. Duran disrespected Leonard, told his wife that he would kill him. If Hatton continues, which I hope he does, maybe Mayweather will fall into this trap, try to stand toe to toe, and end up like Leonard. If not, he’ll run again as he always does. Thoughts?

I Think he went too far. People have always critizised Floyd that all he cares about is the money, and fame. Now I think he proved it.

Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley Announcement

In one corner is 32-year-old challenger, Floyd Mayweather Jr., a five-time champion with a spotless record of 40-0, with 25 knockouts who has been virtually unhittable, if not, untouchable throughout much of his career.

In the other corner is 38-year-old WBC welterweight (147 pounds) super champion, Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs), who is ending a nearly, 14-month layoff since a Jan. 24, 2009, ninth-round knockout victory over Antonio Margarito.

“You have the best meeting the best, and that’s what the public wants to see,” said Mayweather’s adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, on Friday afternoon. “This is the biggest fight in boxing that can be made right now. This is two, great American fighters, and the fans can’t wait to see it.”

According to Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather promotions, “the negotiations have gone very smoothly,” and boxing fans may not have to wait much longer than May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to see Mayweather against Mosley.

“We’re very close. Both sides have agreed to the deal points. Now, it’s just a matter of the legal-beagle stuff,” Ellerbe told FanHouse. “Working with [Golden Boy Promotions' CEO] Richard Schaefer and Team Mosley has been very smooth.”

Ellerbe’s assertion backs up a statement made by Golden Boy Promotions president, Oscar De La Hoya, on Tuesday during a Los Angeles press conference announcing a Feb. 25, junior welterweight (140 pounds) bout between Victor Ortiz and Hector Alatorre. Read the rest of this entry

Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosely

Regardless of why Andre Berto dropped out, or the fact that the Pacquaio vs. Mayweather fight won’t be happening now or even for quite a while, if ever, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Sugar Shane Mosley is a huge fight. While it won’t be the megafight that boxing fans (and hell, just about everybody) was looking forward to, it is a fight that has been discussed for years now, coming to a head when Mosley jumped into the ring after Mayweather’s win over Juan Manuel Marquez and challenging him to a fight this year.
